Do you brush your hair in the morning? If so, you should definitely be brushing your lashes too!
Brushing your lashes plays a crucial role in your aftercare routine. Not only does it help keep your beautifully placed extensions in their proper position, but it also supports optimal eye healthโsomething your lash technician will appreciate!
In this post, I'll cover everything you need to know about why, when, and how to brush your lashes.
Lash extensions can tangle, just like the hair on our heads. Since extensions are often longer than natural lashes, theyโre more prone to twisting together. As eyelashes grow at different rates, an extension that becomes overly grown can easily get caught in the others, leading to tangles. Regular brushing helps prevent this, reducing the risk of pulling out a natural lash prematurely.
Neglecting to brush your lashes can lead to a buildup of makeup and oils, making them appear clumpy. This residue can create a breeding ground for bacteria, putting your eyes at risk for infections or mites. To maintain healthy lashes, it’s essential to wash them regularly from the roots using a lash shampoo, ensuring you rinse and dry thoroughly.
When you invest in eyelash extensions, you want to get the most out of them. Freshly done lashes look seamless, but as they grow out, they may droop, twist, or tangle.
This often leads to the temptation to pick or pull at them, which can cause premature shedding of your natural lashes and reduce the fullness of your extensions.
Instead of pulling, use a lash spoolie to brush your lashesโupwards to lift drooping lashes or downwards to untwist them. This allows you to maintain your lashes without compromising their retention.
While it's hard to specify an exact number of times to brush your lashes daily, I recommend carrying a reusable spoolie with you. This way, you can easily brush through your lashes whenever needed. If you can't do it during the day, aim to brush them at least in the morning and evening.
After showering, your lashes may be wet from water dripping onto them. It's crucial to wash them with lash shampoo afterward, as simply getting them wet doesnโt count as washing.
Once your lashes are washed, brush them from root to tip with a handheld fan on a cool settingโsimilar to blow-drying your hair. Alternate between brushing downward and upward to restore your lash extensions to their original fluffiness.
Thatโs a wrap! Now you know everything you need to about how and when to brush your lash extensions. Happy brushing! ๐
