Lash mapping
Choosing the right lash glue isn't a one-size-fits-all decision. Thatโs why many lash suppliers offer at least three different types of glue. What might be one lash techโs favourite glue could be difficult for another to work with, and this can be due to a variety of factors. In this guide, Iโll walk you through how to make choosing your new favourite lash glue a little bit easier.
You might be wondering, What does this have to do with choosing lash glue? In fact, these factors play an important role in how your glue behaves and whether it performs optimally, which directly affects retention. Each glue is designed to bond lash extensions to the natural lashes, but each type works best under specific conditions.
High humidity will cause the lash glue to dry faster than the manufacturerโs recommended time. If youโre working in an environment with higher humidity than specified on the bottle, the glue may dry before you've placed the extension on the natural lash. This can lead to poor retention because the glue hasnโt had time to properly bond.
In low humidity, the opposite happens. The glue takes longer to dry, and you might find yourself waiting for the extension to set. A slower drying time can cause the lash extension to fall or lean in another direction, making the set look uneven. Not only will your lash set take longer to complete, but youโll also experience more โstickiesโโwhen one extension sticks to the neighbouring lashโbecause the glue hasnโt cured fast enough.
Temperature is even more crucial than humidity. Higher temperatures speed up drying times, while lower temperatures slow them down. When the temperature is outside the glueโs optimal range, it can affect the adhesiveโs viscosity, making it thicker and harder to work with.
Top Tip: In hotter weather, consider switching to a slower-drying glue. This will compensate for the faster drying time caused by the heat.
If you're a beginner, your application speed will naturally be slower than that of an experienced lash tech. A favourite among our seasoned lash artists is our best-selling Phoenix Adhesive, which has a drying time of 0.5 to 1 second. For beginners, we recommend our Cloud 9 Adhesive, which has a drying time of 1 to 3 seconds.
Do you need to time your placement? Not necessarily. We simply recommend that beginners start with a slower-drying glue and, as you gain experience, youโll notice your application speed improving. A good sign that you might need a quicker-drying glue is when you find yourself waiting too long for the glue to set before you can move on to the next lash.
